37 DEVILS

A few years ago I went to a basketball camp at Earlham College. The dorm that my friends and I were staying in was very old and known to be haunted. Well, we were young and bored one night and we decided to play a few games such as light-as-a-feather, blue devil, and then we made a Ouija board out of a pizza box that we had from earlier. None of us really believed that it would work, but we tried it anyway, mostly as a joke.

At first it was just the same old things: "where are you from, who were you, how did you die?". We all kept teasing each other saying that the others were moving it. Well, once we made contact with one particular spirit...things quieted down and we all started getting a little freaked out. The reason was because when asked who this spirit was, he replied that he wasn't able to tell us this. He then said that we were to pay close attention to what he had to say. We all sat there, totally intent on what was being spelled out on the board. I will NEVER forget what it said that night. The spirit proceeded to tell us that he was in hell and that it was different than how humans perceived it. He told us that there were 37 devils...that they were all a different rank and color and that the red one was the devil that we hear of normally and he was in charge of everything. Supposedly, every devil dealt with different mortal sins. Now I know that this sounds ridiculous, and if I hadn't been there that night, I would've swore that someone had a VERY wild imagination. However, I was there and what happened that night will never leave my memory. This went on for about a half hour, him telling us about hell. Then, suddenly...the planchette started spelling out "help, help, help...they're coming". When we asked what was coming, we got no reply...we kept on asking and finally we were answered with, "They're almost here, can't talk anymore" With that, we all took our hands off the planchette and it whirled around with no one touching it, it then flew off the board completely. We all sat there completely shocked and couldn't believe what had happened.

We all then pulled our mattresses together, threw the Ouija board away, and tried to go to sleep. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep. The next morning, I was walking back from the bathroom with two other girls, Jesse and McKenzie. We were talking about the night before and we were trying to laugh it off, saying that someone had to push it, all along knowing that that wasn't possible...but still trying to convince ourselves otherwise. Suddenly, the window behind us slammed shut. We looked at each other and then ran to the room, completely freaked out. It wasn't that we scared all that easily, it's that each one of us, as well as other girls in the hall had sworn that that window had been shut and locked and no one remembered opening it. Whether that had anything to do with the night before or our spirit, I'll never know, but I will never forget that night as long as I live.

I hardly see the girls from camp anymore, but when we do get together, we hardly ever talk about it with each other. I haven't told anyone except my very best friends about this and my friend who is going into the ministry (who has several stories himself). Is it possible that what this spirit told us was true? As hard as it is to believe, I really don't think that any of us could've made up such an elaborate tale with details like that. All I know is...I have never touched an Ouija board again to this day and don't plan on it anytime soon.

Thanks for reading my story. If you have any questions or would like to share a similar experience, feel free to e-mail me. Thanks again!

FAMOUS GHOST

I live in a college dorm at Purdue University. Since moving in, many odd things have happened.

Things will disappear and be found days later in very odd spots, doors slam and open on their own accord, our alarm clocks will go off in the middle of the night when not even set for anything near that time, etc. Lately, things have been even worse!

The occurrences happen more often. Nothing bad happens, just mischievous things. Recently, we discovered that our room was once the room of Amelia Earhart...the room she occupied during her years here at Purdue. We had never dreamed that she had lived there. Well, we jokingly started saying things like, "Amelia, cut it out" or "Hello Amelia, nice of you to join us" when the door would open or when something was moved or something fell to get our attention. We just did that completely kidding around, we never dreamed that it was her. Visitors to our room are always a little freaked by something, but they never can explain why....but we always feel comfortable here. Anyway, our spirit seems to have a fascination with planes, whether it really is Amelia or not. One of my friends who is studying aviation came over one night and was doodling while we were all talking. He drew a plane that looked a lot like Amelia's plane that took her on her fateful voyage (we had been talking about her earlier that night). Well, after he and the others left...my roommates and I went directly to bed. The next morning, that same doodle, which had been left on my desk, was now in the middle of the floor where everyone could see it. None of us could explain how it got there. There had been no breeze and the paper lay perfectly arranged, not in a random fashion like it would've had it just blown off my desk.

Whether it is Amelia who occasionally haunts our room and makes noises and moves things, doesn't matter to us...but some of the coincidences are incredible and it's amazing to believe that we may just have the ghost of the famous doomed aviator lurking around.

Amelia Earheart mysteriously perished some 35-100 miles off the coast of Howland Island in the South Pacific, July 2nd, 1937.

DREAMS

A few years ago I had this dream. I was in a room full of people crying. I saw a casket up at the front of the room and I began to slowly walk toward it. I saw everything very clearly: types of flowers, type of casket, arrangement of furniture, etc. When I reached the casket, I looked down...in it was my great grandmother, whom I was very close to. About 3 hours later, my mother came into my room and told me that she had just gotten a call from her mother. Before she said anything, I said, "Grandmother Maudie is dead". She looked at me in total disbelief and asked me how I knew, so I told her about my dream. When I arrived at the showing, everything was exactly as it had been in my dream. After the funeral, I began to have different dreams. In the dreams I would be in this place that was completely blue, all different shades. Also in those dreams my great grandmother was there. We would talk all about what was going on in my life and she would always tell me that she missed me and loved me in those dreams. These dreams continued for several months after her passing.

One day, I mentioned these dreams to my mother...I didn't explain them at all, I just said that I had them. She said that she too had had dreams about grandmother. So, we decided to each write down the details of our dreams and compare. There were EXACTLY the same! Did my great-grandmother continue to visit and check up on us after her death?

I guess I will always wonder if that's what it was......we still have those dreams, only they happen less frequently..maybe 2 or 3 times a year. But what I choose to believe is that grandmother came to us in those first few months to help me and my mother cope with her death and let us know that she was still with us, watching us and helping us along.
