Monte Cristo Homestead

AGHS Investigation

On returning home after the weekend at Monte Cristo I re-read the Haunting Mysteries of Monte Cristo booklet and revised the ghost stories I had collected - I was surprised to find how similar some of the things we experienced over our 2 days there were to other occurrences that clairvoyants and other members of the general public had experienced whilst visiting this haunted homestead. Other ghostly encounters from the booklet are in the "More Ghostly Encounters" section.

DAY 1

The arrival date for the AGHS investigation team was (Friday), five members arrived during the day including President of the AGHS Eoghan Arnold. Four other members were due the next day.

Members went on a day time tour and investigated the house for themselves before dusk hit. Over the weekend all members except for four stayed in the back of the homestead (which was built as separate living quarters and is not haunted). The back is joined on to the homestead and separated by a door and a curtain (upstairs).

You can seen the doorway to the back living quarters and the curtain upstairs that separates the bedrooms from the main haunted household - not much protection from spooks for the guests!

After investigating the household during the day three Clairvoyant members of the AGHS declared the Drawing Room (upstairs) to be the most haunted. Members then retired to the living quarters and were shown videos of other investigations and documentaries on Monte Cristo. They were treated to some of Reg's haunting ghost tales about the place. They had dinner and retired to their accommodation.

DAY 2

We (Rowena and Mark) arrived around midday and were extremely disappointed to find that two AGHS members had already departed. They left early Saturday morning. We were to hear from Reg later that the accommodation in town that they were staying at commented on their dog's misbehaving and howling and carrying on all night long, which was highly unusual. We feel that maybe these two members experienced something and that they choose to leave because of it. We were sorry to loose two members so early, but we respect their decision to depart early.

The day was clear, sunny and warm and Myself and Mark found the other members happy and enjoying their stay with Reg and Olive Ryan. We went on the daytime tour and entered through the main doorway into this great haunted household. It is fully restored to it's original condition as much as possible and beautifully decorated with antiques, all done by Reg Ryan. Being so old the house is considerably dark and quite chilly throughout.

We went through the downstairs rooms, not particularly picking up on anything - no sign of ghostly activity to be felt or seen anywhere. On going up the steep and creaky staircase we visited the upstairs with some other members of the public on the tour.

Drawing RoomWe then continued on through the other upstairs rooms. Upon entering the Drawing Room we noticed a cold chilliness to the air, one that brought on instant goose bumps - it was freezing in that room. We felt strongly that there was certainly something in the corner of the room on the right hand side of the doorway, upon saying so quietly other members who overheard us suddenly agreed with our feelings - perhaps ghosts were watching the tour?. The air had a distinctly different feel to it than the other rooms and the hallway. We tested this feeling by walking in and out of the room and it was most definitely different in the Drawing Room at that time - it was kind of spooky. We failed to do an EMF reading or fully investigate the room at that time as we did not wish to alarm the other members of the tour, however we did manage to take photos but unfortunately nothing showed up on them (I'm not very successful in taking photos of entities).
