ANGEL

I really do not remember what month of the year that this was, but it happened in late summer. I was about fifteen years old, so it was in the mid-eighties. I was living in Denver, Colorado with my mom and newborn sister in a house that was maybe thirty years old. I was getting ready for bed and was in the bathroom brushing my teeth. The time was about 9:30 p.m..

My bedroom was across the hallway from the bathroom. When I was finished, I left the bathroom and walked to my room. Before I could get the light on in my room, I noticed that my room was already somewhat light. The light was a bluish-white. I was of course puzzled because I had only white bulbs in all lamps. My room had somewhat of an elongated entryway, so I at this point could not see the source of the light. I walked all the way into my room to investigate, still not turning on any lights. To my far left stood a glowing figure. It was not glowing like any ghost I had seen before. It was a pure, calming illumination that radiated out from the very center of the figure. I immediately sensed that this was a woman, even though I could not make out any physical details. She was almost "out of focus" and hazy because the light was so incredibly brilliant. I just stood in awe. She was so beautiful in her flowing robe. I know that I was meant to see her, yet she seemed very startled. Her glow diminished so considerably that it appeared from the waist up, she disappeared entirely, leaving only her legs.

She began to run/float toward me and my heart lept up into my throat. I was still standing in the entrance of my bedroom. She exited my room through the doorway, and on her way out, she put her right hand on my left shoulder, passing through my shoulder and the doorway. I felt slightly panicked, but mostly entranced and vitalized.

Turning to see where she had gone to, I saw her moving briskly down the hall toward the well- lit living room. I ran down the hall to the living room and noticed that her full glow had returned. I could see her very well, which demonstrated her energy. She was heading for the kitchen, where my mom was facing away from the the doorway, washing a load of dishes in the sink. When I got to the kitchen doorway, I did not see the apparition any more, and mom was facing me, pan in one hand, dishcloth in the other, looking bewildered. I yelled "Did you see that?" Thank God she replied "What was that?" I had called her from the living room, and she turned to see me coming in, but instead saw the apparition. "Where did it go?" I asked her "She just vanished." We both were slightly shaken, but we could not contain our skiddish laughter. At the time, we both agreed that it was merely an apparition. In retrospect, I like to think of her as an angel.

Some trouble had erupted between my mom and step-father. I believe that she wanted me and my mom to feel watched over by her. She wanted our attention and got it.
