I was 17, and I was sleeping at a friend's house (Who I will call Matt). It was a round 3 in the morning, we had just got done playing a game of Risk and ready to go to bed. Usually we would sleep in the living room on the couches. So he got on his couch, and I got on mine.
We were laughing and talking for about 15 minutes, until he finally fell asleep. I was just starting to doze off when I heard what sounded like metal rattling around in the kitchen. At first I thought it may be his parents, but remembered they were out of town for the weekend. Then I thought it may be his dog. But I quickly realized it wasn't when I saw his dog lying with him.
The rattling had not stopped, I heard it along with a slight mumbling. The words too low for me to understand. I quickly shot off the couch and across the room, nearly squishing Matt.
He sat up quickly, fumbling to get a grip on reality. He was a little angry at me, as he was having a rather nice dream (I will not give the contents of that dream as I do not know). Still pretty paralyzed with fear, I simply put a hand over his mouth to shut him up, thinking a burglar might be in the kitchen, not wanting him/her to know we were awake.
Matt, still being half asleep heard the rattling as well. He gave me a puzzled look as I moved my hand from his mouth. Suddenly a crash came from the kitchen, like the drawer had fallen to the floor, spilling the silverware.
Both of us jumped at the sound, I was too scared to think as I darted across the room, flipping the light switch near the closed door. The kitchen being adjacent to the living room, I knew whatever was out there would be able to see me as soon as I opened the door. I also knew that there were no doors leading from the kitchen outside. So whatever it was would be trapped.
I turned back to Matt, who was just sitting on the couch, staring at the door, his dog letting out a low growl, looking at the door. Matt scrambled to his feet, grabbing a baseball bat from the closet near the couch.
I backed up to Matt, allowing him to be ahead of me as he had the weapon. A happened to see under the door, the kitchen light was on, even though I was sure I had turned it off.
We began slowly approaching the closed door, at the same time heard light foot steps making their way across the kitchen, towards us. Matt's dog let out a few small barks, as it was only a small cocker spaniel.
He opened the door quickly, shoving it open then taking a step back ready to swipe at anything. We both saw a blur move off to the side, along with a small hiss. We both jumped back in surprise, literally frozen with fear.
After a few minutes we realized it had disappeared before our eyes. We could see pretty much the whole kitchen, the only way out a small window above the sink, which a man couldn't fit through. And aside from that, it was closed and locked.
The thing that freaked us out the most, aside from the hissing blur and spilled silverware, a long carving knife rested only a few feet from the door, inside the kitchen. On the other side of the spilled silverware.
After this, we searched the kitchen for about and hour. After replacing all the silverware, we locked every door in the house. After we were 100% sure they were all locked, we just sat on the couch in silence.
I guess we finally got too exhausted to stay awake because I found myself waking up to sun shining through the window across the room. It was about 7 in the morning.
Matt was sitting up on his couch, I could tell he had just woken up as his hair was messed up. A look of pure terror in his eyes as he stared at the floor. I followed his gaze down, to find the carving knife on the floor in front of him, and his dog cowering in the corner across the room.
I checked the doors, they were still locked.
Sorry this story is so long, but I just had to get every detail in there.
