Disappearing Into Darkness

I'm sure that a lot of you believers out there have heard of the 13 bridges. Well in case you haven't, let me give you a little insight into this ghostly place.

The 13 bridges is a place in Alabama that is said to be very haunted. As I'm sure you have guessed it is 13 very small bridges that run back to back. They cover small creeks and lakes. I'm not sure why they are haunted, but I had a small ghostly experience there.

I had just moved to Alabama in June. My father was in the military and we moved around a lot. When I got there I didn't know anybody and I thought that my summer was pretty much shot ( I was 15 at the time ). Well, about a week after we moved there I had meet another guy who lived down the hall in our apartment complex. It so happened that he goes to the school that I was going to go to next fall. He was my age and we just hit it off.

About a month later my father was gone on a trip for work and I was home alone. My friend told me that this would be a perfect time to have some fun. He invited me out on a Saturday night. Well, we were just cruising trying to find a party to go to when he told me about the thirteen bridges. He said that they were haunted and told me that only the bravest guys go there. Well trying to be Mr. tough man I decided to go. My freind drove me to the spot and we just sat there for a moment. I didn't want to tell him that I was a little nervous and wanted to show him how tough I was. So I got out of the car and bet him that I could stand on the last bridge for at least five minutes alone. He told me that I was crazy but accepted the bet.

As I was walking to the last bridge I felt a very strange feeling. The kind of feeling you get when you think something is going to happen but your not quite sure what. The feeling got stronger and stronger with every step. I finally reached the last bridge and when I turned around my friend and the car was gone. Now the first thing I thought was that my friend was playing a dirty trick on me. The reason it was so strange was the fact that in order to get to the 13 bridges you have to go over a huge pile of loose gravel on the road. When you drive over the gravel it makes a very loud grinding noise that you can hear for at least a quarter mile. That was the only way out and I didn't hear or see him leave. Also, when we stopped my friend had turned off the engine and I didn't hear him restart it.

After about 15 minutes of looking for him, I turned around and saw him at the end of the bridges on the left. When I approached him (very angry by this time) he said that he had been there the whole time. My friend is not the type of person to joke about something with a strait face.

When I asked him where he was he looked very confused and looked at me like I was the crazy one. Well, I finally just put it in the back of my mind and told him I must have been a little tired. I am still not quite sure what happened that night, but that was the last time I ever went to the 13 bridges.

If anyone has had a similar experience please e- mail me.
