stairway - small and spooky - but where are the ghosts?
one of the staircases found within the orphanage - but where are all the ghosts?

The stone staircaseLEFT: The Stone Staircase leading up to the Orphan School from the River

We decided that the lack of activity was exacerbated by the way the Orphanage was lit up - we took it upon ourselves to try to get the lights turned out which meant finding our way back to the main building and back to the entrance (not as easy as it sounds!).

After finding the entranceway and trying to find a light switch we then went outside and explored the river region and lower boat shed. We took more photos of this area and soon returned back to the Orphanage which was located up some steep concrete stairs where the orphans used to be brought up from the river.

more empty rooms - no ghosts RIGHT: The empty rooms of the Orphan School - very very empty indeed!

We then called security to see if they could get the lights turned out. Security were very helpful and tried their best to turn out the lights but could not as we soon found out that the lights remained on 24 hours a day and were not set up in a fashion that they could ever be turned off. We took the opportunity to talk to the 2 security guards who told us about some of the hauntings of the Old Orphanage.

After a lengthy and interesting discussion with Security we returned back into the building in the hope that with the late hour some of it's ghostly inhabitants might show themselves. We explored further into the building and ventured into the other side - of which wasn't particularly interesting - it did not contain as many dark rooms and we found ourselves virtually knee deep in pigeon poo in some rooms. For health reasons we did not stay of investigate any of the rooms where pigeon droppings were thick.

We stayed in a top room for quite a while and set down the Trifield meter an kept on the look-out for anything out of the ordinary. We were soon disappointed and decided to explore another area.

After investigating every single part of the Orphanage except the middle 2nd floor we finally came to an end there. This area (which we did not know at the time) was the Matron's own private rooms - it was also the area where the smallest of babies were kept.

We set the Trifield meter down in a small darkened room and backed away expecting it to do as it had done all night - nothing. We were greatly surprised to find that it went off. It read a very strange rhythmical reading and we set off to take further temperature readings, IRED photos and normal photos with both SLR & digital cameras. What was the greatest disappointment to us was the fact that none of our photos showed anything at all on film............we tried!!.

The meter was going off madly while sitting in the middle of this empty roomLEFT: The Trifield meter was going beserk sitting in the middle of this empty room which we later found out was the Matron's Bedroom where many people experience difficulties today.

The meter settled itself into this cyclic, rhythmical reading and then stopped. We then moved it out into anther room where it soon picked up this odd reading again. We used the thermal scanner and got absolutely NO temperature variations. We ran the EMF meter around the room and picked up on nothing except the wires for the lights. The rooms were barren and empty of everything else.

We continued to take photos and readings and did not pick up on anything else - we also moved the meter to all the surrounding rooms where, once moved, it would pick up the rhythmical readings again once settled. After approx 20 - 30 minutes of these strange readings I pulled up a chair that I found in one of the rooms and sat and watched the meter. I was still taking temperature readings at this time, I suddenly felt overcome with goosebumps and Mike also noted the same thing as he was walking around taking photos. I could swear that the air became suddenly different and perhaps "heavier" - it felt like something was happening.........

I madly took more photos and more temperature readings but to our great disappointment there was no change with the temperature and there was nothing caught on film. The Trifield meter was reading excessively high and still continuing on in it's rhythm. We did our best to try to figure out what other causes could be making the meter react like this - we tried running our EMF meters around the walls and every point in the room but we could get no other readings of anything!!

The small dark room where we first left the Trifield meter - it went off and then stopped after a short time in this room - the surrounding rooms are empty.

We made a move to go to another part of the building and test the meter fearing it was broken or faulty and as we started packing our stuff Mike and I both heard a strange noise - It sounded like a footstep............. and it sounded to me as if it came from the empty room behind us. I cannot be sure that this is what it was but it certainly did sound like it!!! (remember there were NO OTHER people in the building and Mike and I were standing together....). It is still odd that a noise would come from a perfectly empty room. We stood still for a few seconds waiting to hear something else and continued to pack our stuff again - then we heard some kind of "clink" noise - once again coming from somewhere near us or perhaps from the empty room again..... We did not stop and continued to pack up our things (not because we were frightened but because we were very cold and very tired) - we wanted to be out of there and somehow get warm again as it I think we were probably at the point of developing hypothermia. We once again heard that "footstep" sound and did not explore it further (sure...we looked around for another person, of which there wasn't one!!)... we then took the meter down into another area/section completely away from the floor we were on.

We returned back to an area in the girls section where we had previously picked up no meter readings earlier in the night. We once again set down the meter to test it and found that it again picked up nothing. After waiting for a few minutes we returned back to the Matron's floor and once again the meter did the same cyclic readings. We could not pick up any other temperature readings or anything else so we decided that fatigue and the cold were too much for us to continue on with any further investigation and we then called it a night!.

The conclusion of the night - although we picked up some unusual readings we did not pick up anything unusual on film or record any unusual temperature fluctuations. Of course we do hope to return back to the building at some stage and test the Trifield meter again and see if it once again has the same readings........hopefully there will be no bright fluorescent lights!!!.

We would like to thank Beyond Productions and UWS Parramatta Campus (especially the security guards) for allowing us in to investigate the building. We would hope that they would allow us back in in the near future for further Investigation.
