AUNT ROSE
It was a hot summer night and I decided to go over to
stay at my friend Anna's house for the night. Her mother
was going out and her brothers went to a party because they
were on vacation from college. We were all alone up stairs
sitting on her mother's bed talking about how we would be
scared if a ghost came up to us. I said I would do exactly
what my grandmother said to do, tell them they were dead to
go to the other side.
Later that night, we were in her room watching TV and
Anna got thirsty, so we decided to go down stairs to get
her a drink. The kitchen was dark like every other room
down there so we turned on the light. I told her that her
perfume smelled good and she told me she wasn't wearing any.
I told her it smelled like rose oil.
She got her drink
and we were just sitting down talking when we heard a light
breathing and something loud move or fall in the next room.
I whispered and asked her if some one was in her house. We
searched through every room and turned on all the lights
and never saw anything. The smell of rose oil was very
strong in existance though.
We went back into the kitchen and sat down. Well, from
the kitchen you can see the dining room through an opening
in the wall and the entrance. I heard the breathing again
and looked up and I saw a flash of light and her curtain
move far to the right and then back again as if some one
walked past it. I got scared and started to cry. She asked
me what was wrong and I said did you see that? She said
that she saw the curtain move but nothing more.
We heard things comming from upstairs so we laid on the
couch for the rest of the night until her brother got home
and we made our way upstairs. I couldn't understand why I
smelt the strong smell of rose oil. We woke up the next
morning and went into her mothers room, (because her mothers
room is next to the stairs) and we noticed her mother's
roses that she had just got the night before had the pedals
taken off and neatly placed in a circle around the vase.
We walked down stairs and talked to her mother. Her
mother noticed the roses too and thought that it was odd.
She told me her sister Rose was fond of roses and she was
passed away. I thought now was a good time to bring up the
rose oil. Her mother said that her sister always wore rose
oil. Could it have been my friends Aunt Rose that scared me
half to death, or was it just the heat playing games with
our imagination?
I have had PLENTY of experience with paranormal and
ghosts and plenty of scary incidents. I get really scared
to the point where I cant sleep at night, and I'll just
stay up and watch TV all night. Sometimes if I fall
asleep....I wake up to my CD player full blast *which is
seriously loud, with surround sound and I ALWAYS keep it on
12 even though it goes to 20* and it will wake me up at
full blast 20 dead in the middle of the night. But thats
not the story Im here to tell...
One day in mid August my Uncle Tom went to visit my
Grandfather who lived alone in his home. My Grandfather
went outside for a minute to get the mail and he came back
in with a great big smile on his face. My Uncle Tom asked
him "Whats the big grin about Dad...did the neighbor lady
wave to you again?" My Grandfather kind of chuckled and
said " No no...look out the window!" So my Uncle walked
over to the window "Dad, I dont see anything" My
Grandfather kind of looked at him funny "What do you mean
you cant see anything? Cant you see him? Its my good ole
pal Eddie out there by the tree." My Uncle looked
again "Dad, I dont see anything" By this time my Gramps
was getting kind of mad. "Goddamnit Tom, how the hell cant
you see him? He is standing right there smiling next to the
man in black and the lady dancing around the tree!" My
Uncle immediatly put my Grandfather to bed and called my
Aunt. He agreed he'd stay with my Grandfather for the
night and bring him to the hospital in the morning. Then
my Uncle was kind of scared because he remembered that
Eddie was my Grandfathers old best friend that passed away
2 years ago.
In the morning my Uncle woke up and went to my
Grandfathers' room and saw he wasnt there. So he looked
out the window and he saw him by the tree. So my Uncle
walked outside and said "Dad, we're going to go
somewhere...come on get into the car." My Grandfather was
talking to thin air, looked over at my Uncle and said "Oh
hi Tom, they want me to go with them. I learned their
names. The one in black is Howard, and the woman is
Antoinette." At that moment my Uncle grabbed my
Grandfathers' hand and led him to the car.
When they got there, the doctor said he was completely
healthy, no problems what so ever, no alstimers or anything
like that. So they drove home and my Grandfather greeted
the house with a big smile. As soon as he got out of the
car he walked over to the tree and started laughing. My
Uncle went into the house, and called my Aunt and told her
he would be staying awhile until he is sure dad was alright.
For the next two months, my Grandfather went on
looking out windows, smiling, laughing, talking to the tree
outside, and spending hours by the tree just talking. He
kept talking to my Uncle saying "They want me to go with
them, they want me to go"
One morning my Uncle woke up, and already knew my
Grandfather would be outside because thats where he was
every morning talking to the tree. He walked out to bring
him a cup of coffee. As he walked out he looked up and saw
my Grandfather standing at the tree, with Eddie, the man
dressed in black named Howard, and the mysterious woman
dancing named Antoinette. My Grandfather gave my Uncle a
quick wave and a smile and vanished with his friends.
By that time my Uncle dropped the cup of coffee and ran
upstairs to see my Grandfather lying in his bed, dead. He
ran downstairs and called 911, and then he called my Aunt.
The Doctors said they didn't know what took him, he had
nothing wrong with him, but they blammed it on a stroke.
After the funeral, it was time to clean out the
house. My Uncle and my Dad, and my two Aunts went to the
shed to clean the stuff out. There they found a picture of
Antoinette and Howard, on their wedding day...dated back to
1898. Also a picture on Antoinette dancing, in what looked
like a competition. My Uncle did some research in the local
library about the obituaries. One dated back on June 16,
1898....Howard and Antoinette Lyndon died from a house
fire, and were burried in their back yard. They came back
with Eddie, but who knows why? Howard still his dashing
self, Antoinette still dancing with a passion, and Eddie,
cracking jokes like old times...he wasnt crazy after all...
Things happen, and my Grandfather went in a good way,
making friends while doing it and meeting up with an old
one. He's probably up there now laughing about old times
with Eddie, and Howard and Antoinette in love as always
dancing endlessly forever....
Ive had many encounters myself...as far as candles
flickering, seeing orbs race across my room, hearing
footsteps getting closer, doors opening and closing...and
other grandfather stories.
