THE GHOST THAT RAN IN CIRCLES
First off, I have quite a few stories/experiences to submit, (as my family and myself have been involved in numerous
hauntings over the years) but I'm only going to start with a few of the more interesting.
The first story i have to tell was told to me by my grandmother and two uncles, so I do not doubt its authenticity.
My grandma married my grandpa when she was quite young, and so by the
age of 29 she had four children ranging in age from 7 months (my mom) to 13 (my uncle frank). They lived in a
small house on 4 acres of land with a lake, they called it devils lake because you could strike a match and throw it
in and the "water" would catch on fire. They later found
out that the muddy water was actually oil, but not until after they had already sold the house and the land.
They had had a few weird experiences, such as whispering at the windows, and when they would look, no one would be there. At certain times the dogs would act funny, like they sensed that someone or something was there that didn't
belong.
Well anyway this one night my grandmother was expecting my grandfather to come home from his ship (he was
a merchant marine) and had prepared dinner and put the kids to bed early. As she was sitting by the kitchen window
waiting for his arrival, she heard the whispering. At first she didn't pay any attention to it, but pretty soon, it got louder and more insistent, as if it wanted her to hear it. She got up and went over to the window and looked
out and around. She saw nothing (it was pretty dark outside). So being the fearless woman that she was, she went
to her bedroom, grabbed her shotgun and walked outside to the front of the house where the whispering was coming from. Still she saw nothing and heard nothing. So she went back inside.
Almost as soon as she closed the door someone knocked on it. She thought that maybe shed missed my grandfathers lights when she went to get her gun, so she opened the door. Blackness. She shut the door and went and checked in her kids room and saw that they were fast asleep and went back to the window with the shotgun on her lap.
A few minutes later, her oldest son Frankie came to the kitchen and told her that he couldn't sleep because someone was running around in his room. He was not one prone to making up stories, so she went and checked his room and seeing nothing, told him it was probably just a dream and sent him back to bed.
About an hour passed by and he was back, this time, he was trailed by his brothers and carrying the baby. He told her that whatever was running around the room before was running again and it was talking. She grabbed the baby from him and went to the room. Something whizzed past her, almost knocking her down. She ran back to the kitchen where the
boys were. They had already seen it, and they were frozen in shocked silence. The "thing" that was running was a
large black/transparent shadow and it was jogging around the kitchen. My grandma didn't know what to do, the only
thing she could think of was to flee. She tried to bolt for the front door (which was in the kitchen as I said before)
but the thing sped up and started running in circles around the kitchen, blocking her only exit. She was afraid to go
anywhere else in the house because she said she thought it would follow her. So there she stood in the hallway with 4 crying children for hours while this thing ran in circles around her kitchen.
My grandfather finally got home around 4 in the morning and when he came up the drive, the thing stopped running and went through the wall into the back part of the house. My grandma took her kids got some of their clothes and went to her dads house where they stayed until they found another house.
She said she never stepped foot back in that house or on that land. They never heard
any stories about the house and the people that later bought it apparently had no problems. Where that house once
stood there is now a Superwalmart and where the lake was, there is a parking lot.
Thanks for reading.
MY HAUNTED HOUSE
Secondly, I want to say that I personally am no stranger to
the unexplained and whatnot, and neither is the majority of
my family.
It seems like every time we move somewhere, the
place is haunted. No matter if it’s a new building or not.
You would think that ghosties don’t bother me anymore after
all the things I’ve seen, heard and heard about, but they
do. They scare the hell outta me!
The other story I have on this site is “The Ghost That Ran
in Circles”, one of my grandmothers many stories. Between
my family, my friends who have actually witnessed our
spirits and myself, there are enough separate tales to fill
this site for quite a while. Though my story may not spook
you or send chills running down your spine, it scared me a
lot afterwards. And yes I am again living in the house in
the story. More stories to come at a later date!
I was 20 back in 1999 when I first moved to Mississippi to
live with my dad, step mom and stepsister to go to school
there. The house that we lived in wasn’t really all that
old; it was built from start to finish by my step mom’s
dad.
The first week I was there, I stayed in the living
room and slept on the couch because we had to go and get a
new bed for me, so I spent very little time in my room
mainly because I was procrastinating unpacking all of my
boxes and making the room look like a room so I just
decided to do it when we got the bed.
Well, that day came,
my bed was picked out, delivered and set up and I began the
hideous task of unpacking and hanging things etc. About
four hours after I began, I finally got everything almost
exactly where I wanted it, all except for this mini closet
that was on the side of my larger closet, I had some
stuffed animals I wanted to throw in there, but I was
decidedly tired (it was around 1.30 am) so I just took a
shower, turned on my stereo for the light and sound it
provided (I’m just the tiniest bit scared of total darkness
and total silence because sometimes I see and hear things I
don’t want to when its like that) and crawled into my new
bed. I fell asleep almost immediately, after a week of
sleeping on a couch this was a much-needed change!
Anyway,
at some point I felt like my bed was shaking, I was half
asleep and thought I was dreaming so I just ignored it.
Then I realized that it wasn’t my bed shaking, it was my
BODY shaking. That really freaked me out; I thought I was
having a spasm of some sort. Then it just stopped once I
was totally awake and just lying there. I opened my eyes
and looked to my left then to my right and I saw what
looked like a woman standing by my right side. Thinking it
was my step mom, I mumbled something like I’m ok, I was
just dreaming I think. I closed my eyes again and the
shaking started again, almost immediately. I looked again
and the woman was still standing there, I couldn’t see her
face, just a dark outline as she was standing directly in
front of my stereo which was the only source of light at
that moment. All of a sudden it hit me that SHE was the one
shaking me, and that it wasn’t my step mom because surely
she would have said something at that point.
I was petrified. Out of nowhere, the woman started making
weird motions with her hands and trying to come closer to
me. Then she started talking (I don’t know if I actually
heard this or if it was in my mind) and almost pleading
with me to help her because she couldn’t breathe and she
needed her air mask. When I heard her I jumped to a
standing position on my bed and pulled the light cord on my
fan, and she was just gone. It was weird, I don’t know if
she went with the light or if she was gone when I jumped
up. And since I could no longer see her, I of course
chalked the whole thing up to being a dream, a really weird
realistic dream.
I turned out my light and lay back down. I
also noticed as I lay there that I could now hear my stereo
whereas I couldn’t before. Either that or I just didn’t
notice.
The next afternoon, my stepsister and I went
shopping for clothes and when we came back we went into my
room to talk and goof around. (I had not mentioned what had
happened to anyone, I didn’t want people I barely knew to
think me daft!) I remembered that I wanted to throw my
animals in that little closet so I opened the door, and to
my surprise I found some wigs and shoes and an assortment
of other things. I started putting them in an empty box to
make room for my stuff, when I came across an oxygen mask.
I almost fell to the floor. I asked my sister what it was
for and she kinda shrugged…”it was my grandmas, she died in
here. That’s why they wouldn’t let you sleep in the bed
that was in here before.”
I thought she was playing a trick or something on me, but
when I realized that she wasn’t, I told her what had
happened the night before. She didn’t act at all surprised
either and told me that a lot of weird things happen in
that house and that my experience was minor compared to the
other things that I would surely see and hear. I was like
great; I thought I was moving into an un-haunted house for
once. But I was wrong and she wa
s definitely right. Thanks
for reading.
