In 1985, I was 11 years old and lost my Grandfather who was
very dear to me. Not unusual you may think, although the
circumstances surrounding the event may be deemed to be.
Having to go to school the next day I had been put to bed
as usual. At 2am I woke up and went to stand in the doorway
of my bedroom. About two minutes later the phone started
ringing and Mum ran down the hallway to answer it, telling
me to go back to bed. I stood there for long enough to
ascertain that mum was ok and went back to bed.
The next morning Mum told me that Grandpa had died the night before.
It was not until quite a few years later when another instance occurred that Mum told me when I woke up exactly when Grandpa died. I only found this out because it happened again when my Dad's Dad died in 1997.
I was studying nursing and undertaking a clinical placement at a large
hospital in Melbourne. The only people who knew I was there were my family, but I was told by one of the other nurses
at 10am that there was a phone call for me. I found this strange because I had been moved to a different ward for
the day and no-one would have known. Anyway when I picked up the phone there was no-one there, and when I got home mum told me that Dad's Dad had died at 10am that morning.
These are the only two instances that this has happened to me, but they are the only two Grandparents I have lost. I
don't know if it will happen again, I guess only time will tell.
