Dam Tragedy

When I was around 14 years old, we lived in Mudgee, NSW. My father was in construction, so we travelled around a lot. We were living in a little caravan park on the outskirts of Mudgee, at the time.
We had heard a story of a family drowning in a dam which was near the caravan park. Tilly, a woman who lived in a caravan near us was very sensitive to paranormal activity and would hear the ghostly sound of children knocking on her door and calling for their mother.
Apparently, as the story goes, the daughter of the "doomed" family had caught herself on a snag in the dam. Her brother tried to help, but drowned. The father, in turn, tried to save his children but failed and lost his own life, as did the mother.
A friend of mine and I decided to go down to the dam. There were 'cold spots' all around the water hole and it had an eerie 'feel'. Sharlene and I felt uncomfortable, but made jokes about it, to make ourselves feel better.
We sat on a log, facing the dam, and still joked about how we felt and tried to freak each other out. I then noticed something out the corner of my eye, so I turned around to see a woman sitting next to me. She was quietly regarding us both. She was transparent and slightly luminous. She seemed to be dressed in a hippie sort of outfit with very long braids that hung down the front of her. She appeared to be giving us a disapproving 'don't make fun of us' look. Sharlene asked if I had seen it, I said 'yes' and we both bolted, as fast as our young legs could carry us, back to the caravan park.
We never spoke of it, again.
