Feel It To Believe It

A lot of people refuse to believe something until they actually see if for themselves. I have always believed in ghosts but had never actually seen one... Just "felt" them in some way.

Back in late 1992, when I was 20 and expecting my first child, I was going through some changes in my life and some strange things were happening around me.

Not long before my child was due, the partner of one of my aunts was diagnosed with Leukemia and sadly passed away two weeks after being diagnosed. I remember having the thought that when one goes, another comes... Like if a door closes, a window will open.

One particular night, when I had mere weeks to go until the birth of my child, I had woken during the night to see a tall man standing at the end of my bed. This man was dressed in black and had a top hat on. I'd never seen anything like it. I was still partially asleep and not exactly sure that I was seeing what I thought I was seeing. I was also too fuzzy from sleep to even panic about it! To this day, I don't know what the significance of seeing this man dressed in black was, but I definitely know that I did see him standing at the end of my bed.

After my daughter was born, on one particular night she was beside me in my bed as I had fed her and drifted to sleep, forgetting to put her back in her own crib. I think she was about 3 weeks old at this point. I awoke during the early hours of the morning to see a small boy standing beside my bed looking down at my child, he would have been no more than 2 years old, perhaps 3. If I had wanted to, I could have reached out and try to touch him, he would have been no more than a foot away from me and mere inches from my sleeping daughter. He was all white and I could see straight through him to the wall. He never looked at me once, he just stood there and stared at my daughter. While I looked at him, I became more aware and less sleepy and I recall counting to 30 while still looking at this little boy. At one point, I had closed my eyes, only to reopen them and find him still standing there. The second time I opened my eyes, he had gone.

I don't know whether this little boy was the spirit of my Uncle, who had died at the age of 4 in the 1940s... Or if it was the new spirit of my second child, who is a fair haired, fair skinned boy.

After seeing the little boy that one time, I never saw him again. But my ability to see ghosts in the night had changed a few years later to an uncanny and frightening ability to sense immediate danger. Particularly danger involving loved ones.

In 1997, when my daughter was 3 and my son was 1, I was in a semi doze on the sofa of a close friend who in turn was having a conversation with another of my friends in the lounge room. At about 2.20am I sat up with the strangest feeling that something was awfully wrong. I didn't know what it was, I sensed nothing except for this sensation of foreboding. I kept repeating that something was wrong to both of my friends, who no doubt thought I had suddenly lost all my marbles.

The following night, I was supposed to go out with another friend to some night clubs. I rang him early in the morning to confirm that we were still going out and his phone was answered by another person who shouldn't have even been in my friend's house. It had turned out that in the early hours of the morning, my friend (whom I was meant to go out with) had had a terrible car accident and driven over a cliff. Fortunately he was not badly hurt, but it didn't change how I felt about knowing that at that point in time, I knew something was wrong and after the phone call I knew then exactly what it had been.

Less than two weeks later, I was walking into town and I had another sensation that something was wrong. I still couldn't put my finger on any finer details, yet I couldn't shake the feeling that something was up. Later that afternoon, I found out that my good friend (who owned the sofa I had been dozing on two weeks previously) had been in a car accident himself. Fortunately it was a minor fender bender. He had been in a taxi at the time and a couple of streets away from where I was when I "felt" the incident.

Not long after this, I was visiting yet another friend. I had never been to their home and his wife was a clairvoyant. Strange happenings often occured in their home, one involving a little girl who would mess up the toys in their own daughter's bedroom every night and wander their hallway all night long.

My friend and I were talking in a room when he informed me that he could see the little girl coming towards the room. He said that if I used my peripheral vision, I might be able to see her myself. I gave it a go, but I didn't see her. We kept chatting and he told me that she was standing right between the both of us. I was sitting on the floor with my back against the wall and from nowhere I got this intense cold sensation that began in my lap (my legs were crossed) and went right through to my spine... The little girl had sat herself down in my lap and literally sunk into me! She sat there for a few seconds (it was so cold!) and then she removed herself and went on her merry way back down the hallway.

Since these experiences, I have had nothing since. Secretly I am pleased that I haven't sensed that any of the people I care for have been involved in accidents of any kind and although I will always believe in ghosts, I'd be happy not to have another sit in my lap again!
