Guardian Ghost
USA
October 2005
We moved to North Carolina from the city the summer before last. Our house was an old farm house. It had a wrap around porch; you entered the house by going up the steps to the porch and into the front door which lead into the living room. The living room had a piano which only I played (I have been playing piano for as long as I can remember, nobody else in the family plays piano; important), a TV, a couch and an arm chair. To the left of the front door was the kitchen and dinning room. In the far end of the living room was a door that leads into my parents' room. A foot from the door and against the wall was a staircase that leads upstairs. Upstairs there were three bedrooms, my two brothers and I each had our own room, my room was the furthest away from the stairs.
Right away I liked the farm, it had 10 acres of land which had a barn and a creek that lead to a pond where my brothers and I could go fishing or boating. It was a nice change to be able to hear yourself think rather than having all the noise of the cars and people around you.
One night, I woke up really late in the night. I lay in bed trying to fall back asleep, when suddenly I heard the piano downstairs begin to play. I was wondering who was playing; and got a little freaked out once I recalled that I was the only person who played piano in the house. To calm myself down I tried to ignore the piano and tell myself that I was letting my imagination get the better of me.
The next morning, my two brothers asked me if I got up in the middle of the night to play piano. I denied it, but neither of them believed me. So I asked them to hum to tune they heard. At the same time, both Matthias and Daniel hummed the same tune, the tune that was played on the piano the night before. Felling more freaked out but relived that I wasn't imagining things; I told them that I had no idea of what that song was and I had never heard the song before.
Another time, I woke up in the middle of the night yet again. I was really thirsty so I decided to go downstairs and get a drink. Halfway down the stairs, I had a feeling that I wasn't alone so I looked over into the living room. I saw an elderly lady there; she had wavy white hair, pale skin, blue eyes, and was wearing a light blue dress. She had no feet.
I didn't feel threatened or scared oddly enough, I didn't even think much of her presence. I got my drink and went back into bed. A moment later, the piano began playing again and I had a feeling that it was the elderly lady who was in my living room. When she finished the song, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, down the hallway and looking up I saw the lady in my room. She smiled at me, and then vanished on spot. I heard nothing for the rest of the night.
I finally decided to tell my neighbor and trusted friend, Randall. He told me that just before we bought the house, an elderly lady had lived there. She had been born in my room, and she had died peacefully in her sleep in my room. Her name had been Charlotte. She had loved the house and younger children and played piano according to Randall.
I have heard footsteps in my room and the piano occasionally at night. Sometimes I feel a presence that never threatens me or scares me in any way, I even have enjoyed the company of Charlotte's ghost when I was home alone and feeling nervous. I know that Charlotte, my guardian ghost, is watching over me and the house.
