Late Night Paperboy
John White, TX, USA
October 2005
This event happened in the early 1980's. This is also the only paranormal experience I have ever had.
It was late on a Saturday night/Sunday morning when I was sitting on the front porch of my Grandmothers south side house in San Antonio, Texas, with a good buddy of mine. We had been hanging out pretty much all evening not doing too much, and were winding down by enjoying a rather cool October evening, just talking about the events of the day, like most teenagers do.
I have never been one to scare easily, but I remember, in addition to it being a cool night, there was a moderate amount of fog (which is very unusual for San Antonio anytime), which just added to the spooky feel of the evening. More than half way through our conversation, we were getting to wrap things up and call it a night when I happened to glance to my left and saw a couple of houses down from mine a young boy dressed in clothes that looked to be from around the 1920's. He was riding one of those really old bikes, I don't know what they are called but they are the ones with the really big wheel in the front and the little wheel in the back. He was riding through the fog, but I saw him clear as day. He didn't look transparent or "ghostly" in any other way. I quickly turned to my friend and told him to take a look. But as we looked back the "paperboy" had disappeared. My friend remarked look at what? I told him what I had seen, and we proceeded to go down the way to where he was and look around.
He had no way to duck out as there are no side streets and no other means to escape our view and had he turned around we would have seen him riding away.
Now I had not been drinking and was not tired when this occurred. I was quite lucid. I live in one the most haunted cities in the world, and have heard many stories of ghostly sightings and legends from around here, but this is the only one I experienced for myself.
