Like A Black Haze

This is a true experience of something that happened to me 14 years ago when I was 6. I'm willing to bet a number of rational explanations to really explain what happened, maybe it was a dream, or a sudden lapse of reason, or maybe I just made it all up, I'm not sure. But whatever it was, its still with me today, and no matter how hard I try to forget it...

I was 6 years old, lying on the bed in my parent's bedroom, watching my favorite show: "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?". I was alone in the room, and just enjoying my time, absorbing the episode. In those days I didn't just watch TV, I was in it. I would leave the real world to explore an animated one. I perceived it is if it were really happening, it became my atmosphere, and I loved every minute of it.

Well.....not EVERY minute.

This particular episode dealt with one of my greatest childhood fears: Vampires. Until I was 13 years old, I was terrified of anything with Vampires in it. I haven't seen the episode in question for quite some time, so I don't really remember what was going on, but the Vampire had some sort of bell that could hypnotize people into becoming Vampires themselves.

And so the episode, as well as the suspense, kept building and building..... until it got to a scene where an innocent young lady was in a room by herself. The phone rang.... and then a bell rang..... she had turned into a vampire. I freaked out.

And suddenly I turned around, and the room was SWARMING with vampires. Large figures in flowing black robes came into the room poured in from every corner. The closet, the bathroom, under the bed. I didn't get a good look at their faces, but they certainly weren't human. Their heads were as evil as evil could get. Melting, missing flesh, long teeth, ears, noses. They moved like shadows and looked like death.

I sank into the bed, unable to even move. They towered over me, encompassing me like a black haze. All of this happened in a split second, but it felt like 10 minutes.... They reached out their long, bony arms trying to grab me, and they nearly had me. Finally, I burst through the crowd and bolted for the door. I ran screaming to my mom and dad and never looked back.

To this day, I still can't figure out what really happened. I really don't know if I made this up or dreamed it, or if it really happened, but the image of that woman turning into a vampire is as clear to me today, as if I saw it just minutes ago on TV.

I haven't had any trouble with vampires since........but then again, I haven't seen that episode of Scooby Doo in a long time either....
