The Highway of Hell
USA
October 2003
For my 16th birthday my parent's gave me a brand new car. It was a silver 2002 mustang. I was so excited about it that the same night I drove it to Wallmart to deck it all out. I had also picked up my friends Carissa and Elle.
We were cruisin' back home at about 10:30 p.m. We were on the outskirts of town on the highway, when suddenly this person ran out in front of us. I slammed on my brakes, afraid to hit them and we looked out the windshield. Besides us the road was deserted. I was thankful that my new car was ok and that whoever had run out in front of us was gone.
The next night (Saturday night) on my way back to the next town I saw the person run out in front of me again. This time I could tell it was a man. He was slower than before so I honked the horn. There was another car coming in the opposite direction who honked too and stopped beside me. It was a girl about my age who was from the other town. She asked what that was and I said I didn't know, but he had run out in front of me before. We both agreed that it was some nut from the local bar and we went on our seperate ways.
I hadn't given the man any more thought until a month later when I was taking Elle and Carissa to the movies. It was about 7:00 and we were jammin' to the radio. Suddenly he ran out in front of us but this time he stopped in the middle of the road. I slammed on my brakes but it was too late and I hit him. We heard a bang on the front and a bang on the trunk. He must have been thrown into the air and landed behind us, so I turned on my reverse lights to see if he was alive. He wasn't there! We all looked at each other and agreed to get the hell out of there. I put the car in drive and started to go. As I looked out my rear view mirror I saw blood running down the back window. I pulled over and told everyone to get out of the car and get at least fifteen feet away from it. As we did when we turned around there he was on the top of my car.
I have no idea what happened after that because I passed out. When I came to, Elle and Carissa said that after I had passed out he just lay there and stared at them before a car came along and they both turned to look at it. When they looked back he was gone and so was any trace of him.
From that day on we've never seen him again, but there have been plenty on rumors going around about a man running out in front of people on the highway.
I had to sell my car, but the memory of that night still haunts me.
