The House on Lions Street
Madelyn, OK, USA
November 2005
For three years my husband, our three year old daughter, newborn baby girl and I lived in a house that we rented in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. It was a two bedroom house with vaulted ceilings. It was pretty nice and spacious for a two bedroom. My husband and I took the front bedroom and our three year old daughter took the back bedroom at the end of the hall.
Once you walk through the front door of the house, there is a coat closet to your right and right next to the door are light switches. Well, one of them is the light switch that switches off all the lights and whatnots that are on the back bedroom (now our daughter's room). At first, my husband and I thought this might have been a precaution for that room, you know, for kids and all....
One night, I was already settled into bed with the lights off and our girls were already asleep. My husband tends to stay up later than me and our girls. He is one of those men that always has projects going on. Well, I look up from my pillow and see a shadow walking across the hallway. I didn't think anything of it, thinking it was my husband. The weird thing was, my husband was in the garage, because I asked him when he got to bed if he had been in the house and he confirmed he had been in the garage the whole time.
One night, my baby girl woke up for her occasional late night feedings, so I got up and went to the kitchen to make a bottle. I'm standing there heating up the water and hear someone call my name. It was very quiet and faint. There is a window right above our sink and that was where I was standing. I shrugged it off due to lack of sleep and late night feedings, thinking it was just the wind or something.
The faint call of my name happened again not too long after the first incident. THAT, I did not shrug off. I knew this time it was not my imagination as this was the second time this has happened to me. I didn't want to say anything to my husband, so I just kept this to myself.
One afternoon, my parents had our baby girl so it was just me and my 3 year old. There was nothing on, no TV, no radio. Just peace and quiet, for once. I was in the kitchen, my daughter, in the her bedroom. I'm drying dishes and she comes in and says, "mama, someone said hello to me." I thought, well, she's just three years old, it must have been one of her toys or something. I just told her that it was probably one of her toys or the wind or something of that nature.
Those were the only incidents I have experienced. I had nothing concrete to confirm that there was something unnatural in that house, until June 2004.
We were getting ready to move out late June 2004, as we bought a house, and our landlord (the husband) came out to the house to inspect and see what all needed to be done before he puts out a "For Rent" sign. He pulls up in his car, and the car is labeled on both sides, "Ghost Hunters" (or something like that). My husband and I are out there chatting with him, all the landlord's experiences with the paranormal, etc. and he proceeds to tell us a few things about this house.
When he and his wife bought the house, they bought it from a couple that had a little boy and he occupied the back bedroom (which was my daughter's room). Apparently, this little boy had mental problems of some sort, what extent and what he did, I do not know, but that is why there was that light switch to that back bedroom by the coat closet by the front door. The landlord doesn't know what happened to the couple or the little boy, if he lived a full happy life, or died of his mental illness.
When the landlord and his wife moved in (and since they were actively into ghost hunting), they took pictures throughout the house. They developed the pictures and found tons of orbs in the pictures.....in the kitchen. They also said that they had a cat and they would wake up to find that some of the top kitchen cabinets were open. He says that it was probably the cat that opened the cabinets. But, knowing the story of the house and what has happened to me and my daughter, I strongly disagree.
Now fast forward a year.....about a few months ago, my husband, another married couple, our girls and I were sitting in our living room, just talking when the subject of ghosts came up. I started to tell them about the rent house, when I turned around and I asked my daughter (who was four at the time) about the time she heard someone say hello to her when she was playing in her bedroom. I asked her what it sounded like, and she said, "it sounded little, like a little kid...."
Thanks for reading my story. I hope you enjoyed it.
