A Mothers Love

Late Saturday night, some time around 11:30, I sat alone watching television on my couch, flipping through the channels when the phone abruptly rang. I wondered who would be bothering to call at this late hour?. I was surprised that the phone was working at all. There was a large north eastern ice storm that ha devastated the area. I picked up the phone only to hear a distant voice that slowly cut out. I figured it must have been my older brother making sure I was safe. The old house whistled and groaned as it would on windy nights, nothing unusual. As I glanced at the clock I just barely noticed the reflection of a figure that seemed to be right next to me. To shake it off I went to the kitchen and got a drink of water. On my way back to the living room I heard one my mouse traps in the attic go off; so I went upstairs to get the rodent.
Once I was upstairs I noticed a crucifix laying in the corner and when I picked it up it nearly burnt me. So I pulled my shirt down over my hand and picked it up and brought it downstairs. This was the crucifix my mother used to hang in the front window, so I did the same, figuring this was her old house. When I backed away from the window I thought I saw an old woman in the reflection behind me, now I was scared. I didn't know what to think, so I stared outside and to my disbelief I saw that woman again as close as the glass in the window itself. I jumped all the way across the room. When I mustered up the courage to look at the window once again, it looked like someone had drawn some shapes in the frost. When I got up to look at it I saw that it was a date, 01-08-'87. Tonight and the date my mother had died.
I kept this experience to myself for years and only revealed it to my brother two years later on my mothers death day, when we visited the cemetery. I told my brother what I had experienced, abruptly he stopped me and said, "That's not funny."
The same thing happened to me last year. We sat there and leaned on my mother's headstone when suddenly a dove flew down from the old oak tree next to the headstone, amazingly it sat on her gravestone and flew away.
