A Nightmare May Have Become Reality

About 4 years ago I had something happen that still spooks me.

First, a little back story and info about the apartment I was in:

In July of 2001 we moved 1400 miles from Albuquerque, NM to Port Orchard, WA and we had to get the first apartment we could find. What we found was a small two bedroom apartment that was a third smaller than our old house. Most everything we owned stayed in storage, and I had to sleep in the living room because it was the only place my bed would fit. My bed was set along what was supposed to be the dining area window, and the foot of the bed was a few inches from the back door (the tiny living area had a front door, a back door, a living room, a kitchen, and a dining area all without a wall to seperate them.)

My Mother got tired of the place after 3 weeks and moved back to NM without my Dad, our dog, or myself. I had been able to get hired on a 10:00PM to 6:00AM shift, which meant I slept most of the day and early evening. My Dad was gone most of the day and early evening, so I was usually able to sleep without any interruption.

So anyway, it was about a week or so before Halloween, and I was sleeping the day away like normal. I had gone to bed sometime around noon and the house was empty, save for my dog and myself.

I was having a pleasant dreams at first; I was in the food court of the Winrock mall in Albuquerque, standing in line at Johnny Rockets (a burger joint), only it had switched from the upper floor to the bottom one in my dream.

I remember looking ahead of me at this long line and seeing a little boy of maybe 9 or 10 standing directly in front of me. The kid looked around me and pointed behind me. I looked back to see what was going on, and I noticed this red haired girl walking up towards the line I was in. All of a sudden, I felt terror. I thought something was wrong with her, and after a second or two I figured it out; she was not there from the waist down.

Before I could even make sense of what was going on, she was right up behind me. I looked her square in the eye, and I grabbed her by the shoulders and started shaking her. Her mouth began to move, but no sound came from it. I did hear a horrible screeching/laughing sound, but it was coming from inside my own head and it was not in unison with her mouth's movements. Even in the dream that sound felt and sounded real. For no reason I can think of, I started screaming "you don't belong here" in my dream. Over and over again I remember screaming that at this...thing in my dream.

Needless to say that I woke up at this point. Though my eyes were still closed, I knew I was no longer asleep. Instead of that noise, I heard a gentle rain outside. Happy that my dream was over, I decided to try to get some more sleep and maybe dream a better dream. At this point, I turned over onto my stomach (I had been laying on my back) and I got comfy.

As soon as I was settled, I felt what seemed like two very strong hands grab my ankles. After a few seconds, I felt the pressure let up, and then I heard what sounded like my back door shut. I wasn't really afraid, I thought my father must've come home and gone out for a smoke after being a jerk and trying to wake me up.

I got up and prepared to give him a piece of my mind. I swung my legs over the side of my bed, walked a few inches to the back door, unlocked it, and then looked around outside without stepping outdoors. My Dad was nowhere to be found. I figured I must've heard the front door instead of the back door, so I ran over to the front door, unlocked it, removed the chain, and went out front. Not only was he not there, his truck wasn't there either. To make matters worse, now that I'm seeing his empty parking space it dawns on me: Both doors had been locked. The back door had the kind of locks that only lock and unlock from inside, and the front door's chain can't be used from outside either.

About this time, I start thinking two things; the first is that my mind was messing with me when I awoke from that weird dream, the other thought was that I was a little scared. I went back inside hoping to put the weirdness behind me by making the bed and watching some T.V.

While I was re-arranging my comforter, when my feet got directly behind the foot of the bed I had been laying on, I felt wetness under my socks. I thought maybe the dog had peed on the floor, so I went to the kitchen counter and grabbed some paper towels.

When I applied the towels to the spots of liquid on the carpet, I could tell by the way it looked and smelled it was not urine. Plus, they were both roughly the size and shape of foot prints.

I still have no clue just what in the heck happened that night. There is no way anyone could've left that apartment and have it locked up the way it was, so I'm 100% sure I was the only person there. I still wonder if my dream and the ankle grabbing were related, and I still guess as to what reasonable explanations there are for the puddles I found on the floor. I don't know if it was a ghostly encounter or not, but it sure scared the hell out of me.

A month later, I was in one of the bedrooms alone, and the temperature became extremely hot. I was so hot that I could barely move. I immediately began sweating heavily and I started to get dizzy and lose my breath. I freaked out thinking i was having a heart attack or something, but as soon as my Dad opened the door to the room, I felt normal again. My dad was looking at me funny because of the sweat I was covered in, and he made some comment about how warm it was in the room. He walked over the the temperature control to turn it down, but the heater was turned off. He shrugged it off and left the room. About 3 seconds after he walked out of the room, it went back to a normal temperature without our intervention, and without a cooler or a fan.

I still have no clue if what I was experienced was due to a ghost or not, but I sure am glad I don't live there anymore.
