An Australian Ghost Story

G'day, over the years I've experinced a lot of strange things. All of them I can't really explain. One experince that will haunt me for the rest of my life happened in Sydney.

I was 20 years old, fresh faced from the Country and ready to take the Big Smoke on. I was lucky then because I scored myself a really good job as a computer operator in one of Sydney's big department stores.

This one I worked for was an old building dating back to the mid 19th century. My office, if you called it that, was located down a small walkway where the photocopier and the fax machine were. Above my office were empty offices. No one, I will repeat, no one worked in these offices in the last forty odd years. Anyway, my first week there I was alone.

I just finished typing something on the computer and waiting for the printout when, in the corner of my eye, I saw a man standing in the doorway wearing greyish overalls with his hands thrust into his pockets. Thinking it was one of the hired workers who were installing something, I took no notice. But he kept coming back.

Finally, I went looking for him but couldn't find him. This was the start of the whole thing.

One afternoon I was photocopying and I heard someone next to me cough, but I was all alone.

Sometimes I would smell perfume which I've never smelt before (when you're working with heaps of good looking women, you get to know their perfumes LOL), or I would get a whiff of cigarette smoke when the building was a Non Smoking area.

Sometimes I would hear someone walking up and down above me when I knew that there was no one up there. Finally, I saw them.

One evening I was working overtime, I was alone in my office and I decided to take a break to explore the old offices above. Don't ask why, I did it on impluse.

I went upstairs and wandered around. Each time I entered an office, I felt as if I was intruding. It was an electric feeling, hard to explain what I mean by that. I walked down the dim lit walkway when, in front of me, I saw a man and a woman, dressed in the late 1930's, early 1940's fashion. They were dancing to music which only they could hear. For a few seconds they continued to dance, but then slowly faded away. So did I. I never ran so damned fast in my life.

About a year later, I got transferred elsewhere so I decided to enquire about the small office. As it turned out that the original owner, we'll call him Mr.G., used to have that office. Was that him who I used to see? Was he checking up on me? What about the ghostly dancers?

The building is now a multi storey car park. I often wondered about those "people". Are the dancers still dancing? Is old Mr. G. still wandering around?

I've other ghost stories that happened to me but this one is one of the best.

Thanks.
