Children In The Night

I was visiting my grandparents in Max, North Dakota, USA. If you have read my other story you know that they literally live in the middle of nowhere.

One night my cousins and I were up watching TV late at night. We were all laying on the floor in the living room because they had wanted to have a "sleep over" with me. The living room is fairly large, with about 7 windows tracing around the edge of it, and also a screen door which led out on to the porch (the porch wraps around half of the house). After an hour or so, both of my cousins fell asleep, so I got up and walked into the bathroom to brush my teeth before heading off to bed. I walked into the bathroom and shut the door behind me. The bathroom has two windows in it, one was shut, and the other open. As I was brushing my teeth I heard the sound of faint laughter. I put my toothbrush down and shut the water off. I stood quietly, not knowing what to expect. I walked over to the window and then I heard it a second time, only to realize that it was the laughter of children. I peered out of the window. Nothing. Then the laughter grew louder. Thinking that it was my cousins playing a trick on me, I ran into the living room, only to find them sleeping on the floor, right where I had left them. I could feel goose-bumps all over my body as I caught the glimpse of a white figure out of the corner of my eye. I slowly turned towards the windows, and I saw this little girl staring into the living room with these big white eyes. I shrieked and then she laughed and started to run around the deck. I could see her as she passed each window, she was looking at me as she ran. My cousin then jumped up and started screaming. I ran to her and asked her what was wrong and she simply said "I saw her! I saw her!" and she started to cry. After that the girl went out of sight and I held my cousin until she calmed down.

Finally we both went to sleep. In the morning I told my grandma about what had happened and she told me I was "losing my mind". Being aggravated by the way she acted towards me I went out side and walked around on the deck for a while. Leaning over the side of the deck I noticed these footprints. I jumped off the deck and walked over to them, and sure enough these little footprints circled the whole house. My grandma decided to believe me after all.
