Ghostly Home Encounters

This might end up being rather long, but I've had a lot of weird happenings in my house.

I guess I should start at the beginning.

As a child, I experienced a lot of strange phenomenon in our home. It's might seem odd to have any ghostly activity because when we moved in, the house was brand new. This was in 1988 and I was 6 at the time. Anyway, I loved the house and found nothing strange or scary about it, until I was 8.

I think it was around this time that my Mom and I were out in the backyard and we found some Indian arrowheads. I don't know if this has any relevance to my experiences, but it might. Anyway, that was over the summer and when I started 3rd grade that fall, that's when really freaky things began occurring.

At night I would be sleeping, when I would be woken and I would feel long finger nails running up and down my back. I would open my eyes and I could still feel them. Then the sensation would go away. This went on for about 2 years. Also in 3rd grade, I woke up in the middle of the night and looked around my dark room. I saw all of these skeleton-like figures marching around my bed. They almost looked like soldiers. I turned on the light and they disappeared. When I turned the light off they appeared again. Finally I went into my parents room and ended up spending the night there, and yet I could still see the skeleton soldiers marching around the room.

Another interesting fact is that I live near Gettysburg, where thousands of soldiers died, and a major ghost spot. But anyway, a few years passed before anything else happened. The next weird thing happened when I was 14. I would wake up in the middle of the night to find that I couldn't move, yet I could open my eyes. I felt a dark shadow press down upon me. Somehow I managed to sit up and it left. I went back to sleep and the next morning I awoke and my eyes were focused on the ceiling. I saw a dark shadow rise up from behind the bed, cross the ceiling and exit through the wall opposite my bed. I would often hear voices coming from the basement, one male and one female. The first few times this occurred. I thought we had left the radio on down there. But whenever I would go to investigate, the voices would cease. Then my cat died who we had for 14 years. Often, my mother would see him as she was getting ready for work in the morning. He would brush against her leg or she would see him walk down the hall. I saw him once in my parents room and my dad saw him in the basement (and my dad is very skeptic about ghosts).

Right now, the house is pretty quiet and nothing has happened in about a year. Every once in a while I still feel the dark shadow pressing down on me in my sleep, but everything else is pretty normal. I don't know if the other spirits left, but as I grew older most of the activity died down, which proves that either children are more susceptible to ghosts or they they are just overly imaginative. I have had some extremely unnerving encounters with Ouija boards, but I hear that there is an over population of Ouija stories, so I won't go there.
