Haunted All My Life

Joy L., Florida, USA
September 2000

Well, as the title says, I have been "visited" all my life by someone, or something.

The earliest memories I have is when I was 8 years old. I would be in bed at night, lying on my side, and something would grab my shoulder and shake me, hard. I would not be asleep whenever this would happen, and it would happen almost every night. The first few times, I was too frightened to do anything but freeze, but then I started to roll over as soon as I felt the hand grab me, but I could never see anything. This went on for years, and during these years, my parents would always hear our back door open and close, this too on an almost daily basis.

After I grew up and married, I came home to spend the night at my parents house, and as soon as I laid down I looked across the bedroom and a man in a tall black hat and a cape was coming towards me with his hands extended saying, "I'm going to get you now." Well, to say the least I started screaming and crying. Now remember I am a grown woman with children of my own, but I was screaming like a baby. My mother came running into the room, thinking I was being murdered. She says that I kept repeating "he's here, he's going to get me." Luckily, as soon as I started to scream, he disappeared. Nothing happened to me again for quite awhile, until my husband and I built a new house, and apparently my "visitor" has found me. My parents sold their house and have moved in with us, and they always hear the doors opening and closing by themselves, hear footsteps when no one else is home but them, and my cats are forever hissing and running from things that only they can see.

I have seen the "thing" once since we moved into the new house, he was standing in my bedroom door, looking at me. A few nights ago something new happened. I was in the kitchen about 12:30 am getting a midnight snack. My husband was out of town, and my parents had been in bed asleep for hours, plus their bedrooms were a long way from the kitchen. Well, as I was standing there getting my snack, I could hear many muffled voices talking, but I could never make out what they were saying. I stood there for a moment, then just as I turned out the light and went down the hallway towards my bedroom I heard a voice say my name, loudly. I got into my bed, but I did not sleep at all that night, nor much since then. I know that this all sounds fake, but I assure you it has all happened to me.
