Helping Hand

I honestly don’t know how to explain what happened tonight. Curtis and I have been working nonstop getting our house ready for an appraisal. After everything we had been doing, I finally went into our bedroom to relax for a little while and watch the baby monitor.
I had just told Curtis that there were drinks in the way in my daughter’s room aka sippy cups and reminded him to move them and change the show she was watching. A little while later, I saw my three year old daughter wake up.
I was watching her through the monitor when I suddenly saw her quilt lift. And then I saw them. A man’s hands. Not a shadow. Not a face. Just hands. But under the quilt like a ghost but not creepy or scary.
I watched as the hands calmly moved the drinks out of the way. Then they seemed to gently direct my daughter away from her rocking chair and toward her bed, almost as if someone was kindly telling her, “No, go back to bed.”
I was frozen! I couldn’t understand what I was looking at. My heart was pounding, but there was something strangely peaceful about it too.
My daughter eventually grabbed her blanket, the drinks that had been moved, and she went back to sleep. But Curtis wasn’t in her room. And that’s the part I can’t get past.
I watched it happen on the monitor with my own eyes. I have a feeling I know who it was but I don’t know how to explain it, and I’m not claiming to know exactly what it was. But I know what I saw.
And strangely enough, it didn’t feel threatening. It felt like someone was quietly looking after my little girl.
Maybe there’s a perfectly normal explanation that I just haven’t found yet. But tonight, sitting there watching my daughter sleep after seeing those hands gently move things out of her way and guide her back to bed… I’ll never forget it.
