Knock At The Door

August 1999

In August of 1989, I was twelve years of age and my family (myself, my parents, my younger brother, 2 older sisters, 2 nephews, 2 nieces, my brother in law, and my uncle) had just moved to Dallas, TX.

We had been living there about 2 weeks. In those 2 weeks, we would just be in our bedroom and we would hear a single knock every 2-3 seconds traveling around the outer wall of our house starting from our room and ending at the front door. However, the knocking only occurred at 3:30 a.m. everyday. After the 3rd week we had settled in and that's when it happened.

My older sister, and my 2 nephews, and I decided to sleep in the front room one night (even though the knocking persisted, we weren't sure why we decided to sleep where the knocking always ended...at the front door.) We had stayed up late talking about school, and at 3:30 a.m. we started to hear the knockings on the wall starting in our room, coming towards the front door. When the knocking reached the door, it wouldn't stop knocking. It grew louder as if someone was banging on the door (and it continued for the next 10 minutes while other things happened).

We got scared and about 3 minutes into the knocking, the adults came into the front room with weapons. As they approached the door, we could see that they expressed more concern and fear than us children. When the adults had gotten within a few feet of the door, the door to my nieces' room, where they were sleeping, slammed shut with some odd bodily force so hard that the hinges fell off. My uncle and I tried to open my nieces' door and it wouldn't budge even though the hinges were off. He decided to use his body to ram into the door to open it like on the movies. He ran into the door and he fell to the floor with it. As he was trying to get up, he saw that my nieces were hugging each other, curled up in a ball in the corner of the room. A solid black figure walking onto their bed, towards the window caught his eye. He saw it somehow walk through the window, walk onto the grass outside and turn around to glance at him. He hollered for the rest of us to come and observe what was at the window. At that moment, the knocking at the front door stopped. The adults put all the children in one room till morning.

The next morning, we rented a motel to stay for a while and after that, we decided to move out of the house where those events happened that one night on the third week of our stay at our new home.
