Shadows of Nothing

USA
September 2004

This is an experience which I will have to endure the rest of my childhood. (Possibly longer.) It all started when I was in bed one night. I had just got home from a big party, and my stomach was not feeling too good. It was about 12:00 when I got up out of bed to use the bathroom. But when I got to the one upstairs, it was being used. But there wasn't a light on.

I knocked, but nobody answered. I knocked over and over, but there was no response. Suddenly, the light turned on. There was a shadow walking back and forth under the small opening in the door, and I could hear a faint pace of footsteps. Clump... Clump... Clump... I knocked again, and the shadow stopped. Much like the movie "Signs" yes? But this was for real. I managed to call out my brother's name.

The light only turned back off. I ran to my brother's bedroom to see if he was there. He was sleeping soundly. I checked my parents' bedroom to see if they were there. Both of them were in their beds, asleep. I tried to wake them up, but it wouldn't work.

I ran back to the bathroom, only to see that the door was open. I turned on the light, and looked all around. There was nothing there. I was now becoming very freaked out, as if I wasn't before. I braved to close the door, and go to the bathroom. When I unlocked and opened the door, I saw a shadow quickly pass by the hallway, and into the living room. I turned the light on in the living room, and saw a shadow go into the dining room. I turned back to go into the kitchen.

The shadow went back into the living room. I ran into the dining room to peek into the living room, but a shadow went into the kitchen. Then back into the living room. This time I went through the kitchen to enter the living room that way, but the shadow passed into the dining room. I ran into the dining room, only to find the sliding glass door wide open, and a shadow quickly pass into the darkness. I tried to turn on the porch light, where the sliding glass door was. I saw the shadow for less than a second, then it went wisping into the darkness again.

This happens every night now, around 12:00. But I'm the only one that experiences it. Sometimes there are voices, sometimes there are doors screeching, but always, there are shadows flashing past me.

Now, we are the only people in the neighborhood. Everyone else moved away for "various reasons", but I don't take that. I know why they did it. I know what they were running from. They were just too scared to say it. The shadows were invading their houses.
