The Light In The Window

This experience happened to me when I was about eleven or twelve years old. I assure you that this is a true story, even though it may not be as scary as some stories.

I grew up in the small town of Carnarvon, in the North West of Western Australia. I was born in the town and I lived in the same house with my family, until I left home when I was in my early twenties.

Before this house was built, another house stood in its place for about thirty years. This original house was destroyed in a cyclone and so the current house was built as a replacement.

My story happened one night when I had gone to bed. I was fast asleep until, for no particular reason, I woke up suddenly. I sat up in my bed almost as soon as I awoke. I saw a huge light shining in my window, through the closed curtains (the windows in my bedroom were at the end of my bed) It looked like a torch light, although the light was much bigger, like a flood light. The light wasn't as bright as a normal flood light but it was clearly visible. It moved around slightly, from the middle of the window to the left and then it went out. It was as if somebody was shining a torch in my window and then they switched it off. I was a bit scared at the time but thought it may have been my Dad looking around outside. I tried not to let it worry me and I went back to sleep.

The next morning, I told my Mum about the torch light shining in my window. She told me that my Dad wasn't outside with the torch that night and neither was anyone else. She did say, however, that they both heard some noise outside my bedroom window but they didn't go out there to investigate. Dad had a look around the outside of the house (including outside my bedroom window) the next morning. He couldn't find any footprints or evidence that anyone had been prowling the night before. Mum thought I may have been dreaming but I knew that somebody was out there shining a torch into my window. I saw it with my own eyes.

Nobody has ever died in our house, even though it is quite old. Nobody ever died in the original house either. To this day, I haven't been able to explain this strange experience but I believe there are ghosts or spirits in and around our family house.

Thank you for reading my story.
