The Little Girl

November 2005
his happened to me when I was about 13 years old. I was staying the night over ay my cousin's house helping them baby-sit the littlest one.
We had been watching a television "Halloween Special" while the youngest one, Bailey, was asleep upstairs. Bailey tends to like to walk around their house in the middle of the night. She sleeps with her eyes open while they are rolled to the back of her head. It really creeps us out when we go up and check on her.
Anyways back to my story...Bailey likes to play dress up. We all heard upstairs the pounding of little girl dress up shoes and the swishing of a dress. My other two cousin's had obviously heard it too because their faces were very blank and pale. Neither of them were brave enough to go check and see what she was doing because they are freaked out of there house. So I volunteered to and as I was walking up the stairs, I saw a maroon dress skirt and little black shoes with a little blonde pony tail run through the door into Bailey's room. I heard a little girl giggle very loudly and it sounded a lot like Bailey. I walked into Bailey's room and saw her sound asleep on her bed with her eyes open meaning she had been asleep for a very long time. That really creeped me out.
Suddenly I felt a chilly breeze and I noticed the window was open when I had closed it earlier. I muttered under my breath,"Oh Bailey"accusing her of doing it. As i went to closed the window I heard another giggle so quiet I thought I was imagining it. It began to grow louder. I turned around suddenly expecting to see Bailey awake laughing at how silly I was reacting but she was still asleep.
That's when I saw her.
She had on a maroon Victorian style dress with a full skirt. Her hair was pulled back in a large ponytail with a black bow. Her rosy cheeks had somewhat looking scars on them. She was very little....younger then six I would say. Her eyes stood out a bright pale blue. She just stood there staring at me holding a doll that had a lot of resemblance to the girl.
She smiled at me then ran away laughing into the closet. The bottom of her skirt was burned badly and left the odor of something strongly burning.
I ran downstairs to tell me cousins but before I got to the stairs I tripped over something. It was the doll the the little girl was holding. It's dress looked as if it was thrown into a fire, and half of its face was broken.
I learned later that there had been a little girl who lived there in the earlier 1900s and had died in a massive fire. She still haunts the house because she is looking for her mother who supposedly left the house after she died.
The image of the little girl is "burned" into my head. I will never forget the way she just looked and smiled at me like she knew who I was. Her laugh still haunts my dreams until this day.
