The Trap Door

August 2002

It was the year 1998 and my husband and I had just moved into a new house in a small village just outside of Maleny.

The house was huge and had many rooms, but one of the rooms was locked, we asked the owner if we could have the key but he said he didn't have one.

Many strange things happened at night. For instance, sometimes we would hear strange banging noises coming from the locked room.

One day I was alone in the house just cleaning and I heard a girl crying out from the locked room, I decided that I would check it out, but when I reached the door the crying stopped. Then a few nights later I heard someone running up and down the stairs and a young girl screaming, "Stop! Stop! Leave me alone!".

I then decided to tell my husband of the strange events, he said he would check it out. Then one other night when my husband came home he said he heard a door slam, yet he knew no one else was in the house.

After a while everything went back to normal and again I asked the owner of the house if he could look for the key to the locked door. He thought it was strange that we wanted the key so badly so I told him the stories of the room, he said he would get a professional in to check the house.

So the following week a man came to the house, a psychic sort of guy. He went to the locked door and said he felt great pain and anger coming from the room and inside the house. He said he would get back to us. After a few days he came back and told us that he'd done a little research on the house and there was history to the locked room.

Heres what he told us...

About 100 years ago a family lived in the house, a Mum, a Dad, and a 7 year old girl. The dad was an alcoholic and would often come home and beat the mother, and sadly one night he beat her to death. Other nights he would come home and chase the little girl up and down the stairs (which is what I heard at night) and then beat her. One day he came home and locked the girl in a trap door and left her there, then he locked the room she was in, she soon died. Years later he died.

The owner never found the key to the locked door and eventually we moved as we couldn't stand the screaming and crying. So thats my story of the trap door, if you have any questions please feel free to email me.
