The Unseen Presence

February 2025

It was just a regular day for me. My alarm began to go off at 6 am, waking me up for school. I had stayed up late the night before playing videogames with my friends, and I could already feel it hitting me. I took a cold shower to wake myself up, got ready, and went to school. School was normal for me, nothing out of the ordinary. I saw a lot of my friends, went to my classes, and did what any normal highschooler would do. Besides the fact I got the feeling someone was watching me at all times, everything was normal at school. Once I got out of school, I went home. My house was empty, my dad was at work, my mom was running some errands, and my little brother and sister didn't get out for another hour. The peace and quiet gave me a relaxing feeling, and I went straight up to my room to take a nap as I was exhausted from school and slept very little the night before.

Right as I felt my eyes getting heavy and my body getting lighter, I heard a sound downstairs that caught my attention. It sounded like footsteps, and I assumed it was my mom that got back home from her errands. However, the footsteps sounded different than my mom's, but I yelled out to her anyway from my room to let her know I was home and in my room about to take a nap. I was confused when I got no response and tried to call out to her again, but once more, no response. I kept hearing the footsteps as if they were walking back and forth downstairs. I decided to go downstairs to see what was going on. I was shocked to see that nobody was downstairs, let alone my mom. I told myself I was just hearing things and just needed to take a nap and catch up on some sleep. I made myself a quick chicken sandwich and took it upstairs to eat. I finished eating and decided to try and sleep then, but I was hearing the same footsteps again. Now I was growing concerned as I knew nobody was downstairs and I kept hearing these footsteps thinking they were real. I tried to go back downstairs again to figure out what this mysterious sound was, as it clearly wasn't footsteps. I got back downstairs, and everything went completely silent, no more mysterious footsteps. Then, the hallway light suddenly turned off on its own, so I thought the power went out. However, I checked the light in the kitchen and living room, and they seemed to be working, but the hallway one wasn't. I also heard a plate crash on the ground and break. I was very scared at this point, because there was no chance all this abnormal activity was happening at the same time. I quickly cleaned up the broken plate and went upstairs to my room. I closed the door and called my mom to ask her when she was coming home, she said she had another hour before she was going to be home. I told her to come as soon as possible as something was not right.

I decided to just listen to some music on my headphones and block out everything else. I was finally feeling calm and relaxed, but then my phone suddenly turned off even though it was high on battery. It wouldn't turn on and the thought hit me, "Is there a ghost in the house?" "All these things are happening that aren't normal and don't make sense." I simply laid in bed unable to sleep with everything that just happened, waiting for my mom to arrive home. After about an hour as she said, she got home with my brother and sister who she picked up. I ran up to her and told her what happened, and she just laughed at me thinking I was joking and lying about everything. I tried to convince her, but she just grew annoyed at me thinking I was joking around. So, a just decided to go outside and play some basketball. Everything was normal and I felt relaxed just spending some time playing basketball in front of my house. I had completely forgot about all the abnormal activities. A while later, I decided to head back in the house. While I was walking inside, I saw a mysterious figure walking by the side of my house from the corner of my eye. It looked like a little girl, wearing what seemed to be a long white dress to her knees. I went to look to see if she was there, but There was absolutely nobody to be seen. This encounter convinced me even more that my house was haunted and everything that happened before that was paranormal activity.

My dad arrived home while I was still outside. I ran up to him to try to explain to him what I saw and that our house was haunted. However, he laughed at me just like my mom did, saying I was joking. My mom didn't believe me either when I went inside the house to tell her. I was so frustrated but also scared at the same time. My mom had made some pasta for dinner, so my family and I sat together and ate. After I finished eating, I washed the dishes and went up to shower up. I took a nice, hot shower, which is one of the best feelings for me. I got out of the shower, and what I saw on the mirror from the steam terrified me. It said "leave this house now." I tried to show my family, but by the time I came back, the words were gone, and it was just steam. I had to do something to convince my family somehow about the haunted activity, but what was I supposed to do? I had never encountered a ghost or anything like this before. I decided to play some videogames with my friends for a bit before heading to bed. At 10:00, I got off my computer and went to bed.

My phone randomly started to work perfectly fine again, which was random. I scrolled a bit through my phone to help me fall asleep. Suddenly, my phone went black again. This time, it showed me a message in bold, red letters. “You should not be here.” I started to put the pieces together to better understand the situation. The girl I saw outside earlier lived in this house before me, and she was a ghost clearly haunting me, trying to get me to leave the house. She clearly did not want me or my family here, but why was she only haunting me and not my family? I put my phone to the side and tried to fall asleep. However, I was getting the same uncomfortable feeling I got in the afternoon trying to take a nap, and I was unable to sleep. Everyone else was asleep, and the house was silent as I lay there staring at the ceiling. I heard a whisper of a young girl in my ear saying “You should not be here.” I got startled and jumped out of bed too scared to sleep. My thought about what was happening was right. I tried to ask her who she was and talk to her, but there was no response. I went back to bed and lay there, hoping she would stop. I eventually fell asleep after all that had happened. 2 hours later, at about 12:30, I woke up startled by a creaking sound. I saw the door to my closet of my room slowly open as it creaked. A figure slowly started to walk out of my closet, it was the same girl that I saw earlier outside. She was transparent, indicating she was a ghost, and she was wearing the same white dress, but it had blood stains everywhere. She had long black hair covering most of her face, making her look very creepy. I knew I wasn’t dreaming, and I screamed very loud to alert my family about her. Right at that moment, she screamed “GET OUT NOW,” and she began to float, and she went through the wall, into my parents room. They heard me and woke up, seeing the ghost for themselves. They yelled and ran out of the room. I grabbed my little brother and sister. The Lights began to flicker, the girl began to scream very loudly for everyone to hear, and things began to fall over. We had no time to grab anything, so I got my brother and sister, and we all put on our shoes and ran outside. My mom and I got in her car, and my dad got in his car with my brother and sister. We sped away from the house not looking back and spent the night at a nearby hotel. We eventually moved into a new house in a totally different state, and my dad was fortunate enough to get a new job at my uncles restaurant in Virginia. We began our new lives there and did not dare to ever return to that house again.
