Union Street House

In 1999 my boyfriend and I moved in together in an apartment in Fredericton, NB, Canada (right across from Tim Horton’s and Diary Queen for those of you in the area).

The house consisted of 4 apartments. We first moved into a tiny one bedroom apartment in the back of the house and I had an eerie feeling about it and the whole house right from the start.

The house was old. How old I don't know but the back part was an add on. I used to hear footsteps in the apartment all the time even though I was the only one there, they weren't above me but right there in the apartment with me. One evening I even watched foot prints appear as if someone walked through mud than walked on the floor. Needless to say I spent the rest of the evening upstairs at my friends place.

A little later we decided to move into a three bedroom apartment in the front of the same house. Right away I felt uneasy in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The apartment was on the second and third floors of the house, the bedroom’s being on the third floor. My boyfriend who, made fun of me when I told him about the things that happened in the other apartment, refused to step foot in that room. When asked about it he said something wasn't right about the room but he couldn't pinpoint what.

The first few weeks were pretty normal other then the fact that he refused to go in the bedroom and I was uncomfortable going in it even though I'd go if he were standing in the doorway. After a few weeks though, at night while trying to sleep in the room next to it we'd here noises coming from it.

The house used to be a drug house; we didn't know it at the time though. Our landlord lived in the apartment below us and when no one was around we'd hear the TV (which he swore was not on!) and radio going and someone moving around in it.

Upstairs on our first floor in the living room there used to be a loud rumbling noise that started in the corner behind the TV and it would go through the whole house? it sounded like a huge truck going by but anytime you looked out the window there was none around. The noise would shake the house so bad that the TV fell off of it’s stand one night while I was home alone. I ran upstairs and hid in the bed under the blankets till my boyfriend came home.

As often as my boyfriend teased me about this stuff in the other apartment he NEVER commented on it in that apartment. I think he knew something was there and just didn't want to think about it. I used to hear voices coming from the walls in between the rooms all the time but I put it off as noises carrying from other apartments, but now I don't think it was.

We later found out that in the downstairs apartment when the house was a drug house a man was murdered one night after he fell asleep on the couch watching TV. He was found with the TV and radio going full blast!
